Emancipate Your Mind: 050: How to Spot a Narcissist

  • by

In the past 2 years of working with one to one clients, one of the most shocking discoveries for me was realizing how many people healing from religious harm are also dealing with the wounds from narcissistic abuse.

Many of my clients don’t realize that the behavior of their parent, their partner, or their pastor that left such deep self-worth wounds has a name and even a diagnosis.

Understanding what narcissistic personality disorder is, why it likely develops, and how their hot-and-cold behavior and their cutting criticism  has NOTHING to do with your worthiness as a person (even though they repeatedly told you it does) can be so liberating.

Also, since high-demand religions are often started and perpetuated by people with NPD, it’s worth exploring what narcissistic traits look like so that we can begin to more easily spot abusive ideas and behaviors in our religious systems and disentangle ourselves from the lingering harmful beliefs about ourselves, other people, and the world that often keep us from moving forward.
