Many people who have experienced religious trauma have struggled to understand the reasons they had elevated or even ecstatic feelings while attending a church that was also mentally and emotionally harming their sense of well being. Most were even told that those elevated emotions were evidence that the religious teachings were “true” and that any other feelings of disagreement, hurt, anger, or dissonance of any kind should be disregarded in deference to these elevated feelings.
In this episode, we explore what elevated emotions and experiences of transcendence are, how they’ve traditionally served us in an evolutionary sense, and how we can harness them with or without religion to rise to a higher vision and sense of purpose in our personal life.
